Register for Sailing Classes

Boat(s): Optimist Dinghy

Time:  M-F 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Ages: 8-14
Level: Beginner

An introduction to sailing class for kids ages 8-14. Basic sailing skills are taught, including water safety, sailing terminology, rigging, steering, sail trim, tacking, jibing, reaching, and both upwind and downwind sailing. Students sail in Optimist Dinghies.

Boat(s): JY-15′s and 420′s

Time:  M-F 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Ages: 13+
Level: Intermediate

An introduction to sailing class for students 13 and up, this course covers the basic sailing skills of water safety, sailing terminology, rigging, steering, sail trim, tacking, jibing, reaching, and both upwind & downwind sailing. Students sail both JY-15′s and 420′s.

Level: Intermediate

Students who complete LTS1, (or can demonstrate comparable skills & knowledge) may enroll in this advanced Opti course.

The course focuses on refining boat handling and sail trim, as well as embarking on a deeper understanding of sailing as a competitive sport. This includes, but is not limited to, boat speed, wind-reading, as well as strategies and tactics geared to win. Students will be introduced to racing as a positive and exciting way to enjoy sailing.

Students who complete LTS2 (or can demonstrate comparable skills & knowledge) may enroll in this advanced JY-15 / 420 course.

The course focuses on refining boat handling and sail trim, in the context of competitive racing. Students’ interest in sailing as a sport will be encouraged and their exploration of sailing will deepen by honing the skills, strategies, and tactics learned thus far.
